Separate the start from the whole evening

Ask which part of the task can go first. Ten minutes with a clear stop is often more useful than an hour beside your child.

Less of an audience

Sitting there the whole time can teach: nothing starts without a spectator. Try stepping back after the start and returning only on a signal.

Do not turn a mistake into a trait

“You’re lazy” does not explain the evening. Describe what you see: putting it off, fear of red ink, an unclear assignment.

When other help is needed

If a learning difficulty is suspected or a specialist recommends assessment, that belongs there. Coaching does not replace learning therapy or teaching.
