Coaching and therapy

Different kinds of support. A clear distinction.

Aylin brings a B.Sc. in Psychology, coaching training and hands-on school experience to her work. YONCA coaching focuses on everyday goals. Psychotherapy has a different remit: the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions.

Your questionCoaching at YONCAPsychotherapy
What is the focus?Specific everyday goals, such as confidence, communication and family agreements.Assessing and treating mental health conditions and reducing associated distress.
Who assesses a possible condition?YONCA does not diagnose or rule out mental health conditions. An appropriately qualified professional assesses what diagnosis or treatment may be needed.
How does it work?Conversation, play, creative activities and practical exercises linked to daily life.Appropriate psychotherapeutic approaches, which may also include current goals and practical exercises.
What qualifications are involved?Aylin Yonca Örün holds a B.Sc. in Psychology and has trained as a child, teen and family coach. YONCA is not a psychotherapy service.Psychotherapeutic practice and professional titles have their own legal requirements. The practitioner’s qualifications should be checked.

Coaching may be a good fit when…

  • There is a specific challenge at home or school.
  • You or your child want to try new ways of responding.
  • Participation is voluntary and the setting is suitable.
  • The goal is not diagnosis or treatment of a health condition.

Professional assessment matters when…

  • Distress persists, increases or significantly affects daily life.
  • You are concerned about a mental health condition.
  • There is ongoing school avoidance, strong anxiety, withdrawal or recurring physical symptoms.
  • There is self-harm, violence or an acute crisis requiring immediate help.

You do not have to
diagnose this yourself.

A paediatrician or psychotherapeutic consultation can help assess the situation. A coaching introductory call does not replace that assessment.

A clearer picture.

Coaching focuses on everyday challenges and personal goals. Psychotherapy includes the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions. YONCA does not offer diagnosis or psychotherapy. Whether treatment is needed must be assessed by an appropriately qualified professional.

A diagnosis does not automatically rule out all coaching. However, any additional work must focus on clearly defined everyday goals, be appropriate for the situation and, where needed, be agreed with the treating team. Coaching never replaces or interrupts necessary treatment.

Coaching is voluntary. We take hesitation seriously and do not pressure children to participate. You can start with a conversation on your own to explore what is happening and consider possible next steps.
