Explain what will happen next

Be clear about reliable arrangements: who will collect your child and who they can ask for help. Only promise what you can actually follow through on.

Leave room for the feeling

“There’s nothing to worry about” is well meant, but may not answer the worry. Ask what is on their mind. They can miss someone familiar and still take a new step.

Prepare one small step together

Would it help to talk through the new school journey or meet a trusted adult beforehand? Shame does not make goodbyes easier. Forced separation is not a coaching method.
