Being on the outside has many reasons

Some children watch for a long time before they join in. Others have been left out and do not trust the next attempt. That is not a diagnosis and not a character judgement.

We pick one situation that keeps returning: break, a birthday, group work.

A possible session

We might rehearse a scene: how does your child ask to join a game? Which sentence feels right? They help choose. This is practice, not a promise of new friends.

What belongs here

  • Naming a trusted adult
  • Practising asking for help without shrinking
  • Telling friendship apart from exclusion
  • Parents who listen and involve school when protection is needed

The line with bullying

Repeated humiliation needs adult protection, not coaching alone. Then read the page on exclusion as well. Coaching does not replace a school’s safeguarding plan.
