High sensitivity: what parents can do — without a diagnosis

What high sensitivity looks like at home, what turns up the heat, and when a kids coach in Berlin is a useful next step — without a stamp.

What parents usually notice first

A child living with high sensitivity rarely arrives with a label. Sometimes it is the canteen. Sometimes a tag in a shirt. Sometimes the walk home, after which nothing is left but tears or freeze.

“Highly sensitive” bunches perception into a word. It is a description, not a stamp. Underneath can sit tiredness, thin confidence, a day without a pause. Coaching sorts. It does not name a disorder.

What often helps at home — and what turns up the heat

What often helps: a real pause before the interrogation. The same jacket if the fabric sits. Light and noise not treated as a character test. What raises pressure: “stop making a fuss”, comparison with siblings, one more appointment after school.

Telling school without turning the child into a special case is work. Some teachers hear it. Coaching does not magically change the canteen acoustics. It can give you language.

When a kids coach is the useful next step

When the afternoon is only collapse, you cannot stand the noise either — an outsider can take heat out. In Berlin I work in person. The frame sits on the high sensitivity landing. If Berlin is too far, online sessions use the same topic page.

Where coaching stops

I do not treat a disorder and I do not promise thicker skin. If a specialist service recommends diagnosis or therapy, that belongs in other hands. Practical questions: the FAQ.

Questions parents ask

Should we just toughen the child up?

Hardness without a pause often makes the next day louder. A clear limit and a real rest carry more than “stop making a fuss”.

When is coaching the wrong next step?

Acute danger, a clear therapy recommendation, or a child who refuses all contact. Stepping back is more honest than selling a package.

What if a bang follows the overload?

Sometimes the overload sits in the outburst. Read [angry outbursts](/en/services/wutanfaelle) as well.
